Week 3

We have been learning about Habitats and Human Impact. We looked at a variety of images and discussed our thoughts on the habitat shown. We have had a focus on images of Deforestation and Global Warming.
FILE - This Sept. 15, 2009 file photo shows a deforested area near Novo Progresso in Brazil's northern state of Para. Brazil detained a land-grabber in Para state thought to be the Amazon's single biggest deforester, according to the country's environmental protection agency. The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources said Ezequiel Antonio Castanha, detained Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, operated a network that illegally seized federal lands, clear-cut them and sold them to cattle grazers. The image above prompted Evynesence to do some further research on Deforestation.
Here are some facts she learned:

Deforestation notes
*Deforestation is a process from logging and burning
*12-15 million trees are lost each year - 36 football fields per minute.
*When forest cover is removed wildlife is deprived of habitat.
*Deforestation earth's biodiversity at risk.
*Deforestation causes 15% global greenhouse gas releases

How to stop deforestation
*Recycle lots and lots of paper to help 17 trees
*Buy products that are made from recycled materials (paper, tissues, plastic cups etc…)
*Reuse envelopes and paper bags
*Think first before printing
*Plant trees

Welcome back!

Welcome back to Room 4 for Term 4!
As with last term, you can find the latest Kea Team newsletter and homework on the top right hand side of this page.

During the last week of Term 3 we visited Auckland Zoo to get a head start on our Conservation/Habitat and Human Impact topic for this term.

Here are some photos Bruce (our amazing Teacher Aide) and his group took.

Thanks for reading! Please leave us a Positive, Thoughtful, Helpful comment and check back for our work based on this and our trip to Tiritiri matangi in week 5 :)
